Red Card – Trainee Supervisor/Manager

This card is available to both undergraduates and graduate entrants in the construction industry.

To qualify for this card, candidates must complete the CSR 1 Day Health and Safety training and provide evidence of either current registration with a further/higher education college for a nationally recognised construction related qualification or satisfactory completion of a nationally recognised construction related qualification in a further/higher education college.

Renewal Requirement

4 Day CSR Site Safety Supervisor Course & Supervisors Touch Screen Test

or

Supervisor Refresher Course (provided that the 4 Day course has already been completed no more than 4 ½ years earlier) & Supervisors Touch Screen Test

or

Essential Health and Safety for Managers

or

IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers;

or

IOSH Managing Safely for Construction Managers

Red Card - Experienced Supervisor

This card is available to new candidates who are experienced Supervisors but do not hold a Supervisor NVQ qualification.

Applicants must

• Complete the CSR 4 Day Site Safety for Supervisors course
• Pass the CITB(GB) Health, Safety and Environment test for Supervisors (Touch Screen test)
• Provide proof of registration on a Supervisor NVQ (Level 3 or 4)
• Have an employer declaration signed confirming their experience as a Supervisor.

Renewal Requirement

This card cannot be renewed.  Cardholders should upgrade to a gold Supervisor card on achievement of the relevant NVQ qualification.

Gold Card - Supervisor

All applicants must complete the CSR 4 day Site Safety for Supervisors Course and CITB(GB) Health, Safety and Environment test for Supervisors.

Applicants are required to hold a Supervisor NVQ (Level 3 or 4).

Please note the Occupational Assessment route was withdrawn on 1 September 2019.

Renewal Requirement 

CSR 1 Day Site Safety for Supervisors Refresher and Supervisors Touch Screen Test

The 1 Day Site Safety for Supervisors Refresher course and Supervisor Touch Screen Test must be completed within 6 months of the card expiry date.

Platinum Card - Manager

All applicants must complete either the Essential Health and Safety for Managers course or the Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers.

Applicants are required to hold a Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management or Construction Contracting Operations Management.

Essential Health and Safety for Managers Refresher

or

IOSH Managing Safely for Construction Managers/Refresher

Note:  Cardholders who obtained the Platinum Manager card previously through Occupational Assessment, must achieve the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management or Construction Contracting Operations Management before December 2024 should they wish to retain the card.

Black Card - Senior Manager

All applicants must complete either the Essential Health and Safety for Senior Executives course or the IOSH Safety for Senior Executives & Directors course. 

Applicants are required to hold a Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management.

or

IOSH Safety for Senior Executives & Directors

Note:  Cardholders who obtained the Black Senior Manager card previously through Occupational Assessment, must achieve the Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management before December 2024 should they wish to retain the card.

CSR Senior Manager application form

Red Card - Experienced Manager

This card is available to experienced managers who do not have a relevant NVQ, construction related degree or professional qualification/membership.

This card reflects the candidates experience whilst recognising they are working towards an NVQ.

Applicants must complete one of the manager/senior managers health & safety courses specified below:

• Essential Health & Safety for Managers
• IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers
• IOSH Managing Safely for Construction managers
• Essential Health & Safety for Senior Executives
• IOSH Safety for Executives & Directors

Applicants must also provide evidence they are registered on an NVQ Level 6 or Level 7.  (See manager/senior manager card information above) and have an employer complete a confirmation of relevant experience  declaration.

This card is valid for 4 years and cannot be renewed.

Note: If you hold a construction related degree of professional qualification/membership, you may be eligible to obtain one of the Professional Cards
